Exploring The Impact of The COVID-19 Pandemic On Educators Compassion Fatigue

The pandemic has affected me personally in ways that I never expected, like when I lost my father unexpectedly in March 2021, in part due to complications from COVID-19. The grief was unimaginable, and yet I still had to find a way to work and teach. Even though I was working with adults and graduate students, it was difficult for me to do. It isn’t something I have been able to share broadly until now. I can only imagine what this time must be like for PreK-12 teachers and administrators.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted teachers and students alike. Teachers and administrators need support as they recover from the pandemic while simultaneously working to support their students. After all, the health and wellbeing of educators are vital to student success and teacher retention.

For these reasons, I am working on a new research study to explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced educators’ experiences of compassion fatigue. Findings will support policy recommendations to improve school-working conditions and climates, educators’ mental health, and better-quality educational experiences, especially during these challenging times.

I need your help to do it. I am looking for working PreK-12 teachers and administrators who might be interested in participating. All participation involves is taking an online survey called the Professional Quality of Life Scale 5 (ProQOL 5) and, if willing, a possible voluntary follow-up interview.

If you fit the criteria and are willing, please take a moment to complete this survey. Also, if you know someone who fits these criteria, please share this post and flyer with them. Thanks in advance for sharing this far and wide! I appreciate the support more than you know.
